Get ready to spoil yourself with a high-style evening on the town with the unbeatable game plan of dinner + cultural event (aka: a museum, musical, or movie). Instruct everyone to meet at your house for pictures, dressed in their best. Simply drape a plain sheet or party tablecloth somewhere with ample lighting, and snap away. Extra points for funny props, like party-store feather boas, silly hats, and huge sunglasses.
Carpool to your restaurant of choice (make reservations so you feel like queens as the hostess escorts you past the long lines). After dinner, peruse a local museum or head to the movies. To remember your extra special evening, decide on an event hashtag beforehand, so everyone’s pictures can be shared together in social media. Here’s to #ladiesnight!
Grab a selfie-worthy apron and stock your pantry, because your kitchen’s about to take center stage for your ladies-only cooking party. For an event focused on the food, prepare or buy only a few simple appetizers – your guests will cook the rest with you. Hire a local chef or culinary professor to come teach a class in your own kitchen by searching “cooking class events in [your area]” or “cooking party events for adults in [your area].” Those feeling extra creative can pick a few recipes to try with your crew, no teacher required!
Organize a recipe list in advance, and divide the ingredients between your guests for an easy investment that everyone will thoroughly enjoy. If the idea of throwing you and your closest friends into a cooking escapade sounds more like Hell’s Kitchen than a positive creative endeavor, make dinner a potluck and play invent-your-own-cocktail (or epic-ice-cream-sundae) instead.
After tag-teaming the cleanup (stick to paper plates to minimize the effort) watch a culinary inspired feel-good film like The Hundred-Foot Journey or The Chef.
Celebrate girl power by tackling a mountain – or, okay, maybe just a pretty nature trail. Instead of a late night on the town, organize a fun day on the trail. The difficulty and duration of your journey is entirely up to you and your friends. Search “nature hikes in [your area]” to read trail reviews and see how others rated the difficulty of various hikes.
And no ladies’ hike can be complete without snacks, so have everyone bring a snack to share (plus water for herself!) After your day (or hour) on the trail, retreat back to the comfort of your home to lavish your feet in some TLC. Set out a combination of white sugar, brown sugar, epsom salts, essential oils, olive oil, and lemon juice to prepare DIY foot scrubs. Remember to have a few buckets for warm water soaking, plenty of towels, and pretty nail polish.
